Radway Post Office

Radway is the second biggest hamlet in Thorhild County, and the Post Office closure is devastating to the community, the small businesses, and as a result, the tax base. We want ALL of our communities in the county to remain cohesive and vibrant!

As of April 25, there has been no successful suitable alternative operator for the Radway Post Office.

Following the closed session portion of the Council meeting on January 10, 2023, Council voted to close the Radway Post Office with no public conversation.

Last operating day will be July 10, 2023. The Radway Post Office serves easily between 300 and 400 people in the community. Our community will be greatly harmed by this closure and we are concerned!

MAY 9 UPDATE: Thanks to our community's emails and phone calls with Council members and our CAO, County Council revisited the Radway Post Office topic. Following a closed meeting during the regular council meeting, Council moved to have further discussions with Canada Post regarding the Radway Post Office. Scroll to page 5 in the meeting minutes to see this decision.

JAN 18 UPDATE: Thorhild County released a statement that they are looking for alternative ways for the Post Office to remain in operation. We are still petitioning to keep the Post Office running - it is the hub of the Radway and area community.

About the Radway Post Office

Named after Orlando S. Radway, the man who opened the post office in June, 1910, Radway is the second biggest hamlet in Thorhild County. The Post Office closure is devastating to the community, the small businesses, and as a result, the tax base. We want ALL of our communities in the county to remain cohesive and vibrant!

MARCH 10 UPDATE: We submitted a petition to Thorhild County Administration with 324 signatures.

APRIL 10 UPDATE: Thorhild County Administration deemed the petition insufficient and accepted the petition as information. While Councillor Filipchuk has been opposed to the closure of the Radway Post Office since the first Council decision to do so, Councillor Dafoe did acknowledge that over 300 signatures were collected to have the resolution reversed.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Contact our Councillors and CAO to request that the County extend the contract between Canada Post and Thorhild County.

Council has been getting the message that Radway is not going to accept the closure of the Radway Post Office. County council rejected the petition with 300+ signatures. Many letters have been sent to council, Canada Post, Shannon Stubbs and everybody else who may have influence on this situation, or, like Municipal Affairs, is keeping apprised of the situation.

Please keep writing and CC everybody on those letters.
