Emergency Services Bylaw

TOWN HALL MEETING on Tuesday MAY 30 from 7 to 9 PM at the Thorhild Community Hall hosted by Thorhild County Council.

Attend and help make Thorhild County stronger and better for our community - share your concerns and your ideas with Council and Administration. The emails and phone calls from our community members requesting a Town Hall meeting were successful, stay engaged and share your thoughts.

See our comparison document of the fees charged to residents for Emergency Services in counties neighbouring Thorhild County. Sturgeon County laughed at us when we called and asked what the fees to their residents are following an Emergeny Services response.

Services Covered

  • fire prevention and protection

  • emergency response

  • medical assists

  • technical rescue

  • urban search and rescue

  • citizen assists

  • mutual aid responses

  • assistance to circumstances that may harm people or damage property

  • educational and training programs

Cost of Emergency Services

A) Hour 1: $585 flat rate

B) Hour 2 on: $185/hour per command unit AND

$400/hour per responding unit

C) Any other costs incurred by the County due to this incident

SUBJECT TO GST 

Payable in 30 days, then SUBJECT TO 18% INTEREST MONTHLY

If left unpaid, this bill is then added to the property tax bill.

Repercussions

As seen recently, these bills can reach into the 10s of thousands of dollars for one emergency. Far beyond the standard $10 000 -$20 000 emergency services coverage provided by insurance.

Charges billed to one resident for a building fire in February 2023 were around $88 000 for the emergency services alone, due within 30 days of the invoice date.
